Origin
Sheba’s Soul Plate Food Cart was born out of American Southern, Caribbean, and African roots. Our family is a mix of Caribbean and southern traditions and cultural values. We brought these traditions together back in 2003, when we founded our family owned and operated restaurant and music hall, The Garden of Sheba in Charlottesville, VA. We were able to bring a fresh and invigorating take on the food scene in Virginia and enjoyed serving the community until 2006, when we retuned to our native city of Philadelphia.
Present
Original owners, James and Julia Watts, career educators, and entrepreneurs, are passing the torch to their eldest son Stephon. He has been operating the food cart and running the kitchen since October 2019. Stephon brings his 10 plus years of fine dining experience to the street food scene, and is making a name for himself and his family.
Future
Here at Sheba’s Soul Plate we dedicate ourselves to providing healthy and delicious food at affordable prices. When you treat your body right you allow your mind to do so as well. We are so grateful for the continuous support and are blessed to continue to share what we love with you. We are continually working on new ways to bring you the healthy and soulful food you and your body love end enjoy.
Father and son duo James and Stephon established Sheba’s Soul Plate in October of 2019. The idea was birthed from a vegetarian soul food restaurant, Garden of Sheba, that James and his partner and wife Julia opened in 2003 in Charlottesville. James has been an educator and entrepreneur for over 20 years.
From working at the Garden of Sheba restaurant and living in a culinary household Stephon’s love for food grew. He worked in several different restaurants all over Philadelphia and now alongside his father, have decided they were ready to take on the mobile food scene full time.
